Father Nicholas J. O'Brien
Appointed Pastor June 10, 2004

Fr. Nick's Internet Ministry

Fr. Nicholas J. O'Brien, (Fr. Nick) was ordained on September 17, 1983 for the P.I.M.E. Missionaries after having begun his studies with them in 1970 when he entered their Saints Peter and Paul High School Seminary. During his first seven years of priesthood he served as the Vocation Director for the P.I.M.E. Missionaries and a teacher of Religion and Computer Science at Saints Peter and Paul High School Seminary now the St.s Peter and Paul Retreat Center, in Newark, Ohio.

In 1986 Fr. Nick had a Mission Experience in Papua New Guinea on Goodenough Island. He found the faith among the people to be much stronger than his. The trip was a life changing experience. He returned with no longer the desire to go to the Missions on his own, but rather the desire to take others with him that they too might have a similar experience.

On August 3, 1990 Fr. Nick came to the Orlando Diocese where his first assignment was at Blessed Trinity in Ocala, Florida, with Fr. Pat Sheedy, the founding priest of St. Anthony's. There he spent four years with Fr. Pat, learning from him what it means to be a dedicated pastor. During his time at Blessed Trinity he founded the "Covenant Missions Team" leading them on their first mission experience to Reynosa, Mexico. Shortly thereafter, Fr. Nick was transferred to Resurrection Parish on the south side of Lakeland. While at Resurrection he began his Magic Ministry and also to develop his Internet Ministry. In 1996 he was transferred to St. Paul's in Leesburg, Florida.

During his eight years at St. Paul's, Fr. Nick was incardinated into the Diocese of Orlando and became part of the development team for CCTN, The Catholic Community Television Network.

Still with the Missionary Spirit in his heart he formed another Mission Team at St. Paul's, leading the team on two trips to Mexico and two to Appalachia.

Since bringing the "Mission Team" experience into two parishes they have each successfully built a church in a distant land. Blessed Trinity in Uganda, St. Paul's in the Dominican Republic where they previously had built a school

On June 10,2004 Fr. Nick was appointed by Bishop Dorsey as the fourth Pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

In the words of Pope Benedict XVI,," the Holy Spirit rebuilds the bridge of true communication between heaven and earth."

We at Saint Anthony's are here to help each other cross over that bridge for we are a Missionary Church, Catholic in nature, who are called to be missionaries to the world and to one another.
